Gene has more than 25 years of international development experience managing and evaluating economic development programs in Africa, Asia, the Middle East, Europe, and Eurasia, with a focus on private sector development, business enabling environment reform, and corporate governance.
As an Acceleration Director in the Partnerships Incubator’s Partner & Agency Readiness Unit, Gene is supporting the assessment and capacity development of USAID’s partner organizations.
Gene recently led an Office of Transition Initiatives–funded capacity development program for Syria Civil Defense (White Helmets) and, for the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), supported the identification, replication, and scaling of Malaysian solutions contributing to micro, small, and medium-sized enterprises’ sustainability.
His earlier experience includes preparing evaluations of USAID-administered Enterprise Funds, co-authoring UNDP’s strategy for partnership with international financial institutions, and preparing a strategy for the USAID Mission in Ukraine to establish a mechanism to support local civil society organizations.
Gene currently also is serving as an Adjunct Professor in the Master of Business Administration program at Bay Atlantic University in Washington, DC. He holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in International Studies and a Master of Arts degree in International Economics from American University in Washington, DC, and is fluent in French and Hungarian.
