Kaizen empowered Indian cities by bringing Indian delegates to the US to learn about Smart Cities and promote business.
Kaizen, on behalf of the U.S. Trade and Development Agency (USTDA), led two reverse-trade missions (RTMs) for the States of Rajasthan and Uttar Pradesh in India. The RTMs brought Indian delegates to the United States to learn about “smart Cities,” modern urban areas that use information and communication technology to improve operational efficiency, share information with the public, and provide higher-quality government service. The trips also connected delegates with companies that help build smart cities. The objective was to facilitate relationships that promote the export of American goods and services and the implementation of smart urban development strategies in India’s cities.
Highlights
- Fostered economic growth in India and the United States
- Led reverse-trade missions for two Indian states
- Connected Indian delegates with American companies specializing in smart cities
The delegations spent five days each visiting leading smart cities across the United States, including Washington, DC; Boston, Massachusetts; Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania; Austin, Texas; and Denver, Colorado. During the visits, delegates met with local and state government officials and private-sector firms to learn about the technologies, services, and financing strategies local governments are using to implement a smart approach to urban development. The RTMs enabled delegates to gain firsthand knowledge and insights on the successful implementation of smart urban development strategies in the United States.
Working closely with USTDA, Kaizen played a crucial role in planning, promoting, and producing business roundtables and receptions and recruiting organizations to host and sponsor site visits. Kaizen oversaw all RTM logistics and evaluated the impact of each delegation on the promotion of U.S. business and implementation of smart urban development strategies in India. During the RTMs, the delegations met with a range of consulting businesses, technology companies, and engineering firms, including Accenture, KPMG, Jacobs Engineering, and Thompson Reuters, as well as municipal government staff. The Rajasthan RTM secured in-kind sponsorship worth more than $12,000, more than twice the required minimum.
Overall, the RTMs led by Kaizen on behalf of USTDA facilitated knowledge exchange and collaboration between Indian delegates and American companies in the smart cities sector. The RTMs enabled Indian delegates to gain practical knowledge on the latest trends and best practices in smart city development and connect with American companies that can help them implement these strategies in India. The success of the RTMs demonstrates the effectiveness of USTDA’s partnerships with organizations such as Kaizen in fostering economic growth and development in both India and the United States.
