As part of the USAID-funded YouthPower/Jordan project, Kaizen supported project monitoring, evaluation, and learning and fostered greater communication between youth, community leaders, and policymakers.
With much of its population under the age of 30, Jordan’s economic stability and security depends on the active participation of its youth. However, youth in Jordan face several challenges, including a rising cost of living, limited job opportunities, an education system that does not provide skills and knowledge that match labor market needs, and limited opportunities for political engagement. Overwhelmingly, youth face high levels of unemployment and lack opportunities and safe outlets for professional development, civic engagement, and access to resources and public services, particularly outside Jordan’s capital and major cities.
Highlights
- 75 percent reported increased preparedness for education, training, or workforce
- 10,525 youth trained in soft skills
- 78.4 percent of youth reported positive recognition by adults
- 1,625 youth held leadership roles in new activities
- 88.3 percent of youth participated in civic engagement activities
Building on existing community-based structures and in partnership with the Government of Jordan and local organizations, USAID YouthPower used a youth-led approach applied through a positive youth development framework. The Agency partnered with vulnerable youth to deliver the knowledge, skills, attitudes, and networks they needed to create transformational impact and shape stable, secure, and self-reliant futures.
As a subcontractor to Global Communities -, Kaizen improved opportunities, well-being, and civic engagement for youth by establishing and increasing access to local systems and programs that serve youth. Kaizen supported project monitoring, evaluation, and learning and fostered greater communication between youth, community leaders, and policymakers. Kaizen led implementation of the Jordan Youth Network, a community of practice for youth to interact, share challenges and opportunities, and access resources.
The Jordan Youth Network will ultimately inform policy that will build the capacity of youth to facilitate their development. Kaizen empowered Jordan’s youth by building competencies through community asset mapping and positive youth development approaches. Kaizen led the creation and implementation of the Engage Game, which provided fun and incentives for youth to continue to engage with USAID YouthPower throughout the life of the activity. Kaizen also led the creation and implementation of Mapbox, an interactive mapping tool for youth to identify opportunities, local organizations, and other youth to engage with for professional and personal development. Project team also integrated Mapbox into the Jordan Youth Network.
